THE WORLD OF CINEMA ALLOWS US ALL TO DREAM. EVERY MEMBER OF A FILM SET IS AN ARTIST IN THEIR INDIVIDUAL FIELD; FROM ACTOR TO DIRECTOR, CAMERAMAN TO EDITOR, COSTUME DESIGNER TO SOUND RECORDIST AND SO ON, THEY ALL CONTRIBUTE TO THE FINAL STORY AND PRODUCT. IT IS THIS ARTISTIC INGENUITY AND THE RESOLUTE ROLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY THAT WE CELEBRATE WITH THIS SPECIAL EXHIBIT.
THE SELECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN BY SOME OF THE WORLD’S MOST ACCOMPLISHED ‘ON-SET’ PHOTOGRAPHERS PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE THE ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND TO TRAVEL BACK IN TO THE GOLDEN ERA OF FILMMAKING WITH ICONIC DIRECTORS AND ACTORS. EACH PHOTO CHARACTERISES THE UNIVERSE OF THIS PERIOD WITH IMAGES RANGING FROM: ANDY WARHOL WITH HIS FIRST SOPHISTICATED ANCHORED CAMERA IN 1964, ALFRED HITCHCOCK DIRECTING THE FILM NOTORIOUS IN 1946 AND MARILYN MONROE ON THE SET OF THE MISFITS. MANY OF THE IMAGES ARE EXTREMELY RARE AND SOME HAVE NEVER BEEN EXHIBITED BEFORE.
THE ART OF BEHIND THE SCENES PLATFORM:
The Art of Behind The Scenes is a unique platform, created and produced by Finch & Partners. The Art of Behind The Scenes in Film is the first exhibition within the platform which celebrates the visual art of behind-the-scenes and on-set photography. This exhibition rediscovers the heritage and high glamour of the film world.
Now in its second year and following the exceptional success of the first launch exhibition during the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, The Art of Behind The Scenes has begun its global tour with plans to expand the platform into additional fields such as Fashion, Music and Sport.
Most recently we took The Art Of Behind The Scenes exhibit to be shown at The Lincoln Centre during the 54th New York Film Festival. This third exhibit of the collection gave us a chance to re-affirm the true essence of the film heritage that runs through the exhibit. The confirmed next stage of the exhibit will see the prints taken to LA and shown during the lead up to and the week of the Oscar’s at the prominent Merry Karnowsky Gallery. Alike the activation in New York the prints being up in LA during the Oscars represents the relevance this exhibit has within the film remit.
The project will come full circle by May of 2017 at the 70th Cannes Film Festival. The home of the first The Art Of Behind The Scenes exhibition.
